Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ’s
Do I have to provide my quilt top and backing to you sandwiched with the batting?
No. The quilt top, backing and batting are loaded separately onto the long arm frame. You just need to provide your quilt top freshly ironed, your backing, freshly ironed and larger than the quilt top, and the batting, if you provide your own, larger than the quilt top.
How big does my backing need to be?
Your backing should be four (4”) inches larger on all sides, or a total of 8 inches longer than the width and 8 inches longer than the length. For example, if your quilt top is 50”X70” please ensure that your backing is at least 58”X78”.
How big does my batting need to be?
Your batting should be 3 inches larger on all sides, or a total of 6 inches longer than the width and 6 inches longer than the length. For example, if your quilt top is 50”X70” please ensure that your batting is at least 56”X76”.
How do I get my quilt to you?
If you are local you can come to my studio or I can meet you for a consultation and to transfer your quilt and backing to me. If you are out of town, you can mail or ship your quilt top and backing to me at 346 S. Harris Rd., Pearcy, AR 71964.
Do I have to pay the return shipping?
Not usually. Orders over $85 get free shipping.
Do I need to provide the batting?
You can provide your own batting or you can select from my several batting options.
What kind of batting do you use?
I keep a variety of batting rolls in stock from American Fiber Products. It is super soft, durable and made here in the USA. It is low loft quilter’s batting. I have several options to choose from including 80/20 Poly Cotton, 100% Cotton Natural, 100% Cotton White, and 50/50 Bamboo Cotton. If you prefer one of the Quilter’s Dream products, I can order it for your quilt.
What condition will my quilt be returned to me?
Once the quilting is finished, I bury any stray quilting threads and insure all of the stitching is secure. I leave the trimming decisions up to you. If you would like me to trim the batting and backing from your quilt, the cost is $20 per hour.
How does the binding work?
I offer 2 levels of service for binding. You provide the prepared binding – at least 20 inches longer than the perimeter of your quilt. For level 1, I will sew it on the front of your quilt while it’s still on the longarm frame. For level 2, after machine sewing the binding onto the front of your quilt, I will hand stitch it to the back of your quilt. I charge per linear inch for each of these services.
What machines do you use?
I quilt on an APQS Freddie longarm machine utilizing Quilt Path computerized software. My frame is 14’ long, so I can easily quilt king size quilts.
Can I use minky or cuddle backing?
I LOVE how soft and cuddly minky and cuddle backs are, they’re irresistible. As long as you include the extra 4” on all sides (8” inches total for width and length, see above) you’ll absolutely love how your quilt will turn out.
Do you do custom quilting?
I am proud of my ability to provide stunning edge-to-edge quilting that is done quickly and affordably. I will take on a limited number of custom quilts, however, depending on the project. We can meet to discuss the details of each custom quilt opportunity.
Do you have different thread options?
I currently quilt primarily with Glide thread. Glide is a strong, colorfast polyester thread with a beautiful luster. Glide comes in a variety of weights and 325 colors including variegated colors.
Where are you located?
My studio is less than 5 miles outside of Hot Springs, Arkansas, just off of Airport Road (Hwy 70).
